Do you know where chocolate comes from? It comes from a tropical Theobroma cacao tree’s seeds. It dates clear back to the Olmec Civilization in Mesoamerica. After the Europeans discovered the Americas, chocolate became very popular throughout the world. Now days, chocolate is super popular and is a treat that millions of people enjoy every day. But what does eating this chocolate do for our health and to our bodies?

Did you know that there actually are health benefits to eating chocolate? It may seem crazy, but it is true. Obviously the benefits come from eating it in moderation, eating pounds of it at a time will probably not bring on any benefits. In order to get any of the health benefits, it is dark chocolate or cocoa that should be consumed. It has been shown to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure as well. It can raise your HDL (good cholesterol) levels and will protect LDL (bad cholesterol) from oxidation. It can also reduce insulin resistance, which is a common risk factor related to diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. There is a bioactive compound found in dark chocolate that can benefit your skin. There are flavonols that can protect against sun damage. They actually improve blood flow to the skin and will increase the skin density and hydration. Dark chocolate has been shown to improve the function of your brain. It can improve the blood flow to the brain. And for elderly people with mental impairment has been shown to improve cognitive function. Eating an ounce of chocolate every day during pregnancy has been shown to benefit fetal growth and development. Dark chocolate can help boost your oxygen during fitness training. Athletes have been shown to use less oxygen when competing at a moderate pace and cover more distance.

The bottom line is, there is definitely some health benefits to chocolate. But it does not mean it applies to all chocolate. Some chocolate is loaded with sugar and contains a lot of calories. In order to be receiving the benefits, you need to be consuming a dark chocolate that has a 70% or higher cocoa content. And even then, still do not splurge and eat a ton. But savoring a piece after dinner will allow you to get the benefits that you are looking for. This is why you should buy your clients Private Label Chocolates.
